La gestion des déchets solides constitue un enjeu majeur dans un contexte mondial marqué par l’urbanisation, l’industrialisation et la pression environnementale. Ce cours aborde les différents types de déchets solides (ménagers, industriels, dangereux, lignocellulosiques) et les stratégies modernes de leur gestion durable : tri, traitement, valorisation.

Une attention particulière est accordée à la valorisation des déchets organiques (notamment agricoles et forestiers) comme matières premières pour la production de charbon actif, un matériau aux propriétés adsorbantes remarquables utilisé pour la purification de l’eau, de l’air et dans divers procédés industriels.

Le processus de fabrication du charbon actif comprend deux étapes essentielles :

  • La carbonisation, qui transforme la biomasse en charbon brut,

  • L’activation, physique (CO₂, vapeur) ou chimique (KOH, H₃PO₄), qui développe sa porosité.

Des méthodes avancées comme la pyrolyse assistée par micro-ondes permettent une production plus rapide, plus écologique et plus efficace.

Ce cours met en lumière l’intérêt environnemental, technique et économique de la transformation des déchets en ressources à haute valeur ajoutée, dans une optique d’économie circulaire et de développement durable.
